US-based healthcare technology company Change Healthcare has acquired imaging technology firm Nucleus.io for an undisclosed sum.

The acquired company specialises in the development of cloud-native imaging technology, which includes zero-footprint diagnostic viewer with patented streaming technology, workflow and image sharing solutions.

Change Healthcare plans to scale up its medical imaging platform with the acquisition. The transaction will enable the company to accelerate the roll-out of a fully cloud-based, end-to-end Enterprise Imaging Network (EIN) platform.

The foundations of the platform such as Archive and Analytics applications have been launched as a cloud-native solution in the market.

By combining the technology and resources of the acquired company, the platform will enable physicians to read, diagnose and collaborate from anywhere in the world while reducing IT complexities and using data and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve outcomes.

Furthermore, Nucleus.io acquisition is expected to expand Change Healthcare’s addressable market with the addition of over 7,500 companies that it has been serving.

Change Healthcare Enterprise Imaging senior vice-president and general manager Tracy Byers said: “Now more than ever, customers are seeking ways to lower cost, reduce complexity, protect their patient data and deliver the best care possible. Our next-generation Enterprise Imaging Network platform helps meet those needs in ways not previously possible and delivers exceptional value to our customers.

“This transaction will accelerate the realisation of our vision and the innovation our industry has been waiting for.”

Commenting on the development, Nucleus Health CEO Dr Vishal Verma said: “We began our journey eight years ago with the goal of improving patient care by using the power of the web to make medical imaging instantly accessible to patients, providers and hospitals.

“Change Healthcare was the clear choice when searching for an organisation to deliver our technology to the world. We couldn’t be happier about the opportunity to have Change Healthcare bring our unified vision to light.”
