Synaptive Medical, a company based in Toronto, Canada, will soon be releasing its Evry device, an MRI machine dedicated to performing head scans in the emergency room. The first installation of this unique device will be at the QEII Health Sciences Centre (QEII) in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

At QEII it will be used as part of a clinical study to evaluate the effectiveness of such a machine being available at the point-of-care within a large emergency facility. The trial will last about four years and it’s expected to be particularly useful for evaluating patients suffering from a stroke, as a quick diagnosis followed by speedy treatment is central to a favorable outcome.

The superconducting magnet, custom head coil, unique shape, and other factors that come together inside the machine allow the Evry MRI to be placed just about anywhere. Typically, MRIs require special rooms, safety equipment, and procedures, whereas the Evry overcomes many of these to be able to provide much needed scans precisely where they’re needed.
