Medical technology firm Smith & Nephew has introduced a new PICO 7 single use negative pressure wound therapy system (sNPWT) in Europe.

With advanced vacuum and leak management, the PICO 7 has been designed to support improved application on anatomically challenging areas where it is difficult to achieve and maintain a seal.

Designed for patients at risk of poor healing, the PICO 7 can be used in hospital and community setting.

The system, which enables to minimize the failures leading to infection and dehiscence, is approved for multiple applications including surgically closed incision sites.

In addition, the system features new user interface to simplify patient operation and belt clip to improve portability.

 In 2016, Medtronic acquired Smith & Nephew's gynaecology (GYN) business for about $350m.

Smith & Nephew's GYN portfolio includes a Truclear system, which will be used to remove abnormal uterine tissue such as polyps and fibroids.
