FDA clears SynchroSeal and E 100 generator for Intuitives da Vinci X Xi platforms

Intuitive Surgical announced that it won FDA clearance for two technologies meant to improve da Vinci robot-assisted surgical procedures that require sealing.

The FDA cleared Intuitive Surgical’s E-100 generator and its new SynchroSeal instrument for the da Vinci X and Xi robot-assisted surgical systems, the company said in a Nov. 26 news release.

Intuitive’s E-100 generator is the company’s first internally developed robotic generator to power two key instruments on the pair of da Vinci systems, according to a news release. It is seen as an upgrade to power the company’s Vessel Sealer Extend and SynchroSeal systems.

SynchroSeal is designed to use bipolar energy from its raised cut electrode to transect tissue, then cool down quickly. Intuitive said the system will enable a surgeon to perform fast one-step sealing and transection with a single pedal press and add versatility to the da Vinci portfolio.

“We are pleased to receive FDA clearance, providing surgeons an additional tool for the X and Xi da Vinci platforms,” Intuitive SVP & GM for instruments and accessories Bob DeSantis said in the release. “We developed SynchroSeal and the E-100 generator to help surgeons quickly seal and transect tissue and vessels, facilitating efficient technique.”
